1. In 1989 Burma changed its name to Myanmar. The capital also changed its name from Rangoon to Yangon but in 2006 moved to Nay Pyi Taw. 


2. Most pet Burmese cats descend from a female cat, Wong Mau, brought to the USA in 1930.

3. Myanmar, Liberia and the USA are the only countries that have not adopted metric units as its official system of measurement. 

4. Burma/Myanmar has competed in all Summer Olympics since 1948 but has never won a medal. 

5. The traditional sport in Myanmar is chinlone, which is a non-competitive combination of dance and football with no opposing team.
